Making the Smart Hockey Light

My mom is the biggest New York Islanders fan, and to celebrate that and make her feel like the whole family watching the games with her I made this hockey light. It flashes a light and plays cheers of family members when the Islanders score a goal, take a penalty, go on a powerplay etc... It was a lot of fun to make and I think she's really going to like it.

The light contains a raspberry pi zero w that contacts statsapi.web.nhl.com to get info on the game and see if they’ve scored a goal. The api has a ton of info I learned about from here https://gitlab.com/dword4/nhlapi

The unit itself is a 3D printed shell, an acrylic face, a raspberry pi zero w, and some electronic components soldered onto a protoboard.

I got a lot of help from the Maker Alliance. They are great group and if you have a question about making something there is someone in that group with the expertise. I highly recommend joining. Also, a special thanks to Zach from ByteSizedEngineering who helped me dust off the high school electronics knowledge.
